Alyssa Mierjeski, MD: A 2025 Unsung Hero

I am honored to nominate Dr. Alyssa Mierjeski for the ACEP Unsung Hero Award in recognition of their unwavering dedication, quiet leadership, and exceptional service to emergency medicine. Dr. Mierjeski exemplifies the spirit of this award—not through public accolades or titles, but through tireless, behind-the-scenes commitment to patients, colleagues, and the broader medical community.

For the past 5 years, Dr. Mierjeski has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty, often stepping in during the most challenging shifts, mentoring younger physicians, and providing compassionate care without seeking recognition. Dr. Mierjeski’s humility, integrity, and quiet perseverance have made a profound impact on our department and the countless lives she has touched.

Dr. Mierjeski does the essential, often invisible work that keeps our emergency department functioning at its best. Whether it’s staying late to ensure continuity of care, advocating for patients with limited resources, or supporting staff during times of crisis, Dr. Mierjeski embody the selfless dedication that defines a true unsung hero.

It is for these reasons—and many more—that I believe Dr. MIerjeski is most deserving of the ACEP Unsung Hero Award.

What sets Dr Mierjeski’s apart is her unwavering dedication to the team and patients, especially during the most high-pressure and unpredictable moments. While many contribute to the success of our Emergency Department, Dr Mierjesk consistently goes above and beyond—often without recognition. She quietly take on tasks others overlook, step in to support overwhelmed colleagues without being asked, and bring a calming, dependable presence in the most chaotic situations. Dr Mierjeski’s humility, reliability, and tireless work ethic uplift the entire department, making her a cornerstone of our team. It’s not just the work she does—it’s the way she does it: with compassion, consistency, and no expectation of praise.

Recipient Bio:
Dr Alyssa Mierjeski graduated from Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2016 and the completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Brown University in 2020. Dr Mierjeski is board certified in emergency medicine.
