Ayse Avcioglu, MD: A 2025 Unsung Hero

Dr. Avcioglu has worked as an ED nocturnist since 2015. She has been a stalwart of our department since then. There is no one more trustworthy as a clinician to make an accurate diagnosis, initiate appropriate treatment, and to manage the department, often on her own at night. Dr. Avcioglu has ensured the highest quality standard of evidence-based care for our patients. She is a valuable resource for clinical information and evidence-informed practice, and her contributions have been instrumental in the formation of our ED and Observation practice guidelines.

Dr. Avcioglu works as a full-time nocturnist in the Emergency Department. This is an extremely difficult job, as she is often the only physician in the ED. She is a successful team leader who is highly respected by her peers and hospital staff. Dr. Avcioglu often takes on patient workloads that would overwhelm other emergency physicians, and she does it with grace and efficiency. There is no physician in the department who would be trusted more to take care of a loved one than Dr. Avcioglu. She is always up to date with her medical knowledge, she advocates for evidence-based care, and she delivers it with compassion. Dr. Avcioglu is the type of person who never seeks recognition or acclaim. She brings a wealth of knowledge and skills in Emergency Medicine based on her experience as both a nurse and a physician, and she has been a quietly outstanding clinician who raises the standard of care in our department.
