Dania Goodin, MD: A 2025 Unsung Hero

Dr. Dania Goodin exemplifies the spirit of the Unsung Hero Award through her tireless dedication to patients, learners, and the community. An Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and core faculty at Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens, she combines clinical excellence with a strong commitment to education, mentoring residents, physician assistants, and medical students while ensuring efficient departmental flow and high-quality patient care. Fluent in Spanish, she fosters meaningful connections with diverse patient populations, thereby strengthening trust and enhancing outcomes.
As Assistant Director of Strategic Community Engagement & Development for the Emergency Medicine Service Line, Dr. Goodin has advanced equity and access in medicine through innovative pathway programs, curricula on health disparities, and leadership of EMPower, a resident-led initiative advocating for patients and communities. She has also contributed to national recruitment efforts to increase the representation of historically underrepresented groups in medicine. Beyond her institutional roles, Dr. Goodin serves as a board member for the Center for Youth Excellence in Education and mentors high school, college, and medical students, inspiring the next generation of healthcare leaders. Her work reflects an enduring commitment to advocacy, health literacy, and patient empowerment, making her a true unsung hero in the field of emergency medicine.

Dr. Goodin’s scholarship and academic leadership further underscore her impact. She has published on sickle cell disease care in the emergency department, contributed to the EMRA Trauma Guide, and presented nationally on healthcare disparities and COVID-19 outcomes. As chief resident, she created and implemented a groundbreaking two-year social emergency medicine curriculum that continues to shape residency education. Today, she serves as co-lead of the residency’s scholarly track, guiding trainees in projects that bridge clinical care with social determinants of health. In every role, Dr. Goodin has advanced the mission of emergency medicine while uplifting her colleagues and community, making her a truly deserving candidate for the NY ACEP Unsung Hero Award.

Recipient Bio:
Dr. Dania Goodin is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she completed her residency in Emergency Medicine with a focus on Social Emergency Medicine, Diversity, and Inclusion. She served as Chief Academic Resident and has been recognized for her leadership, scholarship, and commitment to advancing equity in medicine. A graduate of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Princeton University, Dr. Goodin brings a strong foundation in psychology, proficiency in Spanish, and a longstanding dedication to mentoring and community service.

Her career reflects a deep commitment to patient-centered care, education, and advocacy. She has been honored with multiple awards, including Mount Sinai’s System-wide Resident of the Month and the NIH/National Medical Association Travel Award, underscoring her clinical excellence and academic promise. As a leader, she has guided residency education, advanced diversity initiatives, and contributed to quality improvement through system-wide review committees.

Beyond the hospital, Dr. Goodin has worked extensively in community health education, mentorship, and service, engaging minority youth in science and medicine, as well as volunteering with human rights organizations. Her research spans social determinants of health, health disparities, and emergency medicine education, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences.
