23 Oct Eleanor DeThomas, MD: A 2025 Unsung Hero

Dr. DeThomas is not only a stellar clinician, but she is also adored by patients, their families and ED staff members alike. She has an exuberant personality and brings joy to the department during her shifts. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. DeThomas has taken the baton as ED Sepsis Champion to engage providers and nursing staff in prompt recognition and treatment of sepsis and has joined the hospital’s Reinvigorated Sepsis Care Commitee. Since starting her new role as sepsis liaison, the team was able to achieve 100% compliance with the 3-hour bundle last month due to her persistent education and process improvement. In addition, as the ED Director of Quality she performs quality reviews for ED procedures, sedations, restraints and more.
“Her ability to raise staff morale during busy or difficult shifts with her humor, or a spontaneous dance, brings infectious enthusiasm to the entire team.”
