From networking events to leadership programs to career development seminars, New York ACEP is focused on helping you make the most out of your residency and involving you in the emergency medicine community in New York State. One of the important values of membership is facilitating the connections you will need as you transition out of residency. Whether you stay in state after graduation or take a job across the country, you’ll take with you the skills and relationships you’ve built during your time as an New York ACEP member.

I first discovered New York ACEP as an intern and quickly realized how many opportunities it opens up for residents, from networking and mentorship to presenting research and getting involved in leadership. Since then, I’ve joined the EMRC where we’ve put together events and resources for residents and students across the state. As Vice Chair, I want to make it easier for everyone to know about and get involved in these opportunities by growing our presence online, improving connections with each residency, creating useful resources like a program and rotation guide, and building more resident-centered social events.

The EMRC elects its Chair, Vice Chair, and Councilors each spring through a vote of Resident members. In addition, the EMRC develops and oversees the annual slate of events designed for Resident Members and Medical Students.
Residents interested in serving as Chair, Vice Chair, or Councilor are invited to submit a letter of interest to the New York ACEP office by April 1, 2026. All Resident members are eligible to self-nominate; however, preference will be given to those who actively participate in monthly EMRC committee meetings.

Special thanks to New York ACEP Emergency Medicine Resident committee members who created the following resources to assist current residents with how to best prepare for each year of residency.

New York ACEP Emergency Medicine Resident Committee
If you are a resident preparing for your career, take this opportunity to learn more about New York ACEP’s three core areas of focus—advocacy, education and physician leadership—which are just as important to medical students and residents as they are to the veterans of emergency medicine.
Advocacy
Health care delivery changes daily and our interest must be protected. New York ACEP is your advocate in Albany working to improve your work environment.
Education
New York ACEP offers free resident education right here in New York: Emergency Medicine Resident Career Day & Job Fair and the Resident Research Conference. Residents also receive a discounted rate to attend New York ACEP’s Scientific Assembly, held in July at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George.
Leadership
New York ACEP is committed to developing the future leaders of emergency medicine —because every emergency physician that learns to be an effective advocate is a potential leader and activist for advancing emergency care.
