23 Oct Suven Cooper, MD: A 2025 Unsung Hero

Dr. Cooper has a personality that is warm, inviting, and calm. He joined our institution three years ago and within days became a favorite of our nurses, PA’s. and fellow attendings. He is constantly thinking and looking for ways to improve our department, providing feedback on how we manage patients, and move them through the department. He is quick to make sure others in the department are recognized for the good work they do on a regular basis, either privately by reaching out to me or stating as such at department meetings. He organizes activities outside the department focused on wellness. In organizing these activities, he takes care to make sure all in the department are invited. Dr. Cooper is the first to get up when a trauma comes in the department. He is the first colleague to check in whenever another provider has a critical patient. In difficult encounters or patients that need de-escalation, his voice is often the voice of reason that settles the department and returns us to an environment of care. Dr. Cooper is dependable and the type of physician that makes me proud to be a chair and work at RUMC. We are lucky to have him, and the community is better having him on our staff.
Dr. Cooper prioritizes the relationships he makes in the ED better than others. He makes sure that his peers are celebrated and cared for. He takes the time to truly listen to them and ensure that they are heard and valued. He carries this demeanor to his patients. He is able to easily de-escalate tense situations. He has an excellent ability to make sure his patients go home thankful and appreciative that they were truly cared for in the ED.
