01 Nov Angela Barskaya, MD FACEP: A 2024 Unsung Hero
Dr. Angela Barskaya is an Emergency Medicine Physician with fellowship training in Critical Care. She has been instrumental in the creation of a critical care resuscitation unit within the Milstein Emergency Department (ED) to streamline a dedicated team and resources without affecting cost, yet improving patient survival and outcomes.
Dr. Barskaya is a respected educator and faculty leader of the New York – Presbyterian Columbia – Cornell Emergency Medicine Residency Critical Care Advanced Practice Track. She has mentored residents on numerous critical care lecture theme days and workshops. Dr. Barskaya is a fan favorite for her critical care knowledge and ability to clearly communicate critical care pearls to faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Her leadership in the creation of a critical care resuscitation unit, “Rearranging the furniture: A blueprint for reappropriating fixed resources to create an emergency department resuscitative care unit,” was published earlier this year in JACEP Open.
Recipient Bio:
Dr. Angela Barskaya is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she served as a Chief Resident. Dr. Barskaya completed her Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the Columbia University Department of Anesthesia in 2022. She is dually board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia Critical Care. Dr. Barskaya is an Emergency Medicine Attending Physician who works at the New York – Presbyterian Allen and Milstein Emergency Departments and well as the Milstein Medical Intensive Care Unit.
