Janice Shin-Kim, MD: A 2024 Unsung Hero

As the inaugural Simulation Director for the Columbia University Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Shin-Kim plays a pivotal role in departmental simulation initiatives integral to enhancing education, clinical training, and patient care. She creates a safe space with engaging and innovative learning opportunities for faculty during annual faculty communications and procedural workshops.

Dr. Janice Shin Kim is described by colleagues as a beacon of positivity and dedication who brings tireless energy to her work. Her compassion and commitment inspire all those who work alongside her. She radiates kindness towards her patients as well as her colleagues. As co-Chair of the Columbia University Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Development Committee, Dr. Shin Kim leads the faculty longitudinal curriculum, with engaging and innovative educational and professional development opportunities.

Recipient Bio:
Dr. Janice Shin-Kim is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Attending Physician and works at the New York – Presbyterian Allen and Milstein Emergency Departments. Dr. Shin – Kim completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident, and then completed a Simulation Fellowship at NYU/Bellevue Hospital.
