Renoj Varughese, MD: A 2024 Unsung Hero

Dr. Varughese is fellowship trained in EMS, and is the current University at Buffalo, Department of Emergency Medicine EMS Liaison for the VA Medical Center. In that role he is a member of the Emergency Management Committee and is actively involved in keeping the Medical Center prepared by developing and implementing emergency plans and procedures to respond to disasters.

Not only do Dr. Varughese’s persistent efforts keep the VA Facility and Emergency Department prepared, his cheerful demeanor also makes him one of the favorite physicians to work with. Through his confident and steady comportment he has the great ability to bring calm to the chaotic environment that is the ED.

Recipient Bio:
Dr. Renoj Varughese is an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Buffalo General Medical Center, Erie County Medical Center and the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. He also serves as an assistant medical director of American Medical Response WNY.

Dr. Varughese is very involved in developing telemedicine solutions. He helped launch Kaleida’s and ECMC’s Virtual ER. Dr. Varughese is also the Telemedicine Director of Buffalo MATTERS. He manages telemedicine projects that help initiate medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder to those unable to get to such services.
