Kaori Tanaka, DO FACEP: A 2024 Unsung Hero

Dr. Tanaka has used her vast experience working in high volume emergency departments to demonstrate her unique ability to manage our department’s front-end operations. Her calm demeanor and incredible efficiency helps ensure that patients are evaluated within minutes of arrival during her shifts. She is a model of professionalism and a true leader for our group.

Dr. Tanaka leads by example as she is able to evaluate and initiate work-ups for all patients arriving to the emergency department, even during the busiest times of the day. She always maintains a positive attitude and has a work ethic second to none.

Recipient Bio:
Dr. Tanaka completed her emergency medicine residency and EMS fellowship at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. Following her fellowship, she worked as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio from 2016 until 2019 before returning to Buffalo in 2019. She serves as the medical director for multiple EMS agencies as well as for Mercy Flight, Inc. Dr. Tanaka’s research interests focus on air medical services, disaster medicine, emergency medical services, and tactical medicine.
