01 Nov Jessica Wang, MD: A 2024 Unsung Hero

Dr. Wang is a true unsung hero in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Jacobi.   Dr. Wang is a fantastic emergency clinician and an amazing bedside educator for medical students and residents.  The residents in particular seek out and love learning point of care ultrasound from Dr. Wang.   Dr. Wang is a huge patient advocate and is always looking for ways to improve the care of our ED patients at both an individual and system level.    Dr. Wang is extremely well respected by her EM colleagues, EM residents, and nursing colleagues.  For over 25 years, Dr. Wang has served our Bronx community and has shown unwavering dedication to our ED patients and Department.

Dr. Wang leads an incredibly busy and unique Hyperbaric Medicine program that treats both elective and emergency cases.  The Hyperbaric program she leads includes a team of Hyperbaric EM physicians who are on call 24-hours per day, 365 days per year to treat emergent conditions such as carbon monoxide and decompression sickness and as the only emergency program of its type in a multistate catchment area, patients are helicoptered in from significant distances for treatment.  Dr. Wang provides exceptional leadership and mentorship for her hyperbaric physicians, techs, and nurses and ensures that any time they have her expert advice and help.  Dr. Wang ensures that patients undergoing Hyperbaric treatment at Jacobi are provided with extremely high quality, patient-centered care.

Recipient Bio:
Dr. Jessica Wang is the Director of Hyperbaric Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals | Jacobi.  Dr. Wang graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai, and completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at Jacobi | Einstein.  Dr. Wang has been an Attending Emergency Medicine Physician at NYC Health + Hospitals | Jacobi | North Central Bronx since 2001.  She previously helped create and run an emergency ultrasound fellowship program at Jacobi.  She has been a leader in the Hyperbaric Medicine program at Jacobi for over 20 years.   Dr. Wang is currently an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
