01 Nov Joyce David, MD: A 2024 Unsung Hero
Dr. David represents the best of emergency medicine. She is a clinical stalwart, providing superior patient-centric care to anyone who seeks care in the ED. She is a maven for patient safety and chairs our department’s quality and process improvement committee. She provides detailed review and recommendations based on best practices for the promotion of patient safety. Additionally, she is the founder of our division of Social EM. She is active in community education and health screenings in our diverse and underrepresented population who generally have poor access to care. Further, she has created a pipeline program for underrepresented students from local high schools to gain exposure to different healthcare jobs and disciplines in the hospital setting.
Dr. David provides multifaceted examples of success in clinical care, patient safety, and developing systems to promote health equity and education in our underrepresented communities.
Recipient Bio:
Dr. Joyce David is a native New Yorker. She completed medical school and emergency medicine residency at Stony Brook University. She started her career at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream and has been an attending at South Shore University Hospital for the past 5 years.
